Weather Expectations for Iceland in September

As September rolls into Iceland, expect daily temperatures to dance between 45-55°F (7-13°C). It’s like Mother Nature is trying to decide if she wants to keep summer or dive into autumn.

The air can feel a bit damp and windy, so don’t be surprised if you find yourself battling some breezy gusts that could rival a mini tornado. Rain is more common now, so pack an umbrella—unless you want to experience an unexpected shower, which can be a fun surprise unless you’re caught without your raincoat!

With about 12 hours of daylight, you’ll still have plenty of time to explore, but those evenings are getting shorter, so don’t forget to enjoy the sunset.

When it comes to clothing, layering is your best friend. Think comfy tees under cozy sweaters, topped off with a waterproof jacket. You’ll want to have sturdy shoes for all the walking, and maybe a beanie to keep your head warm when the wind decides to play games.
